Best of the Week Aug. 20
The weekend went by really fast (isn't that always the case?) but I had a lot of fun. We rented some movies since we got a free $50 credit for having a new membership at Blockbuster! Too bad we used half of it on 2 newish movies and 4 old movies!
Movies/tv - The Librarian was quite good: Noah Wiley as a librarian who has to protect the world's greatest treasures within the confines of an enormous library in the states?! classic! My favorite line was : "Get your own geek!"
but...the sequel - not so good. it was actually really boring. I just found out that it was a tv movie, which explains a lot! The best movies of the lot : 1)Freaky Friday (original version not the Lindsay Lohan one) is so hilarious! I remember watching it a lot when I was younger.
2) Flight of the Navigator (another really old movie from 1986)
3) Pan's Labyrinth - yes, it is as good as everyone says it is!
4) Greenfingers (with Clive Owen - this is about a guy who is in prison and becomes a gardener, essentially - very sweet. good british comedy, although it is more of a drama i think)
I started watching a few episodes of Supernatural this week and while I don't think it is the most amazing thing ever, it is still pretty decent! I love how the guy who played Dean on Gilmore Girls' brother is named Dean on this show and he is named Sam - like they just thought of his name on the spot or something since it is so generic.
Music - didn't get anything new this week but there's a streaming of the new Rilo Kiley album here that I might check out.
Books - didn't read anything this week apart from stuff online and half of what I should have read for school. I have a midterm test in New Zealand Ethnography on Thursday so i guess i'll have to read some stuff for that. groan.
Misc. - A month ago today I wrote my first blog post for Minimal Harm and I am happy to report that there are now 118 members!
yay! I spent a few hours this week adding categories on the main page so that it is easier to find older posts of the best resources. I looked at a ton of environmental sites again, mainly to get information for a new series I am starting on how to green your home. today is my brother's 29th birthday, which makes me feel very old. He's only 2 years older than I am! Ahhh.... I am still working on the painting I am planning on sending him.
My mom sent us some money so that we can go see the LOTR sites I had come here (partly) to see! Its a 9 hour drive to Wellington but we'll probably stop half way since New Zealand roads are anything but straight and driving in this country takes a lot out of me! We booked 2 nights in Wellington but we'll probably spend 4 nights away. . . stopping in Matamata the place where Hobbiton was filmed and some areas around Wellington where certain things were filmed, plus go to Tongariro for a bit to see Mordor! I am happy to go but not about having to drive
like I said - NZ roads are BAD!

Books: I love Morgan Spurlock. He has a great sense of humor on sociology issues. I'm reading "Don't Eat This Book". I recommend it for anyone who loved "Super Size Me".
Post after you've gone to the LOTR sites. That would be interesting.
