Best of the Week - September 10/07
After returning from my week-long trip to Rotorua, Wellington and places in between, the second week of the 2-week-long mid-semester break was much less exciting. We watched the LOTR trilogy when we got back from the trip, cleaned up the apartment, took basically everything we own to the laundromat because the washing machine we bought is now broken (like almost everything else we've bought in this country!), played a lot of wii games, enjoyed 2 birthday cakes - we each made one for Greg's birthday, went grocery shopping too many times, and generally avoided both studying for an exam and writing a research paper for this week.
The Highlights Include:
TV/Movies - Watched a few movies, including the Departed, but what I really loved watching most was the Veronica Mars episodes we've been watching since the middle of last week. We are almost through season 2 but missed a bunch of episodes along the way. Clearly, we need to borrow all 3 seasons from the library when we get home!
Music - I acquired both the new Rilo Kiley album (Under the Blacklight) and the new KT Tunstall album, along with some other miscellaneous stuff this week. I am somewhat disappointed with the Rilo Kiley album but really love KT Tunstall's new stuff! Oh, I also got an older Manitoba album...they sound a lot like Do Make Say Think . . . i thought they were associated with them or actually the same band but can't find that info now. hmm... I listened to some good podcasts this week as well, especially the CBC radio 3 one, which is their latest "roadtrip" one - lots of good songs on it! I wish i'd loaded it onto my ipod when we were on the road.
Stuff I Read - Some great posts on TeamSugar, some catching-up ones on Livejournal, and a lot of stuff online related to travel. I am hoping to do some 'pleasure reading' when I am on the road for 6 weeks starting the second week of November!
Other - We will be travelling for 6 weeks, as noted above, starting in Bangkok (via Hong Kong) for 5 nights (day trip or 2 from there?), taking a train to Penang/Georgetown for 5 nights, train to KL and there for a night, then to Singapore for 5 nights...practically free plane ride to Bangkok...hong kong for a few nights then Beijing (5 nights), Xian for 2, Nanjing for 2 or 3 then Shanghai for 3 nights...hong kong...then home!
I talked to my uncle, who is like a second dad to me, my brother and my mom for about an hour and a half total the other day and my mom and brother for a half hour earlier today, and it was so great to hear from them! They all live in Calgary - I haven't seen them in a year and a half! so crazy - can't wait to see them all, and my dad etc in December!
